4 Day Sahara Desert Tour from Fes to Marrakech

5 • 6 traveller reviews

Route

Fes → Merzouga → Marrakech

Duration

4 Days

One of Morocco's most rewarding private routes — four days from Fes to Marrakech through the Sahara. Cross the Middle Atlas, spend a night in a Berber desert camp at the Erg Chebbi dunes, then journey back west via the Todra Gorge, the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou and the legendary Tizi n'Tichka pass.

We believe the best journeys feel personal — with the flexibility to tailor everything from activities and accommodation to pacing and the route itself.

Highlights

A point-to-point journey from Fes to Marrakech via the Sahara — one of the most rewarding and diverse travel routes in Morocco.

Travel the cedar forests of Azrou, where wild Barbary macaques roam roadside, and the Ziz Valley — a sweeping pre-Saharan oasis of date palms.

A sunset camel ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes and a night in a luxury Berber camp — live music, a traditional dinner and a blazing desert sky.

Walk the Todra Gorge and travel the Route of 1,000 Kasbahs through the Dadès Valley on the journey back west.

Visit the Telouet Kasbah — the atmospheric former stronghold of the Glaoui family — a hidden highlight rarely seen by visitors.

Arrive in Marrakech via the Tizi n'Tichka pass — a fitting end to one of Africa's great overland journeys.

The Experience

More than just the destinations

Every itinerary is carefully curated to balance Morocco's most unforgettable landscapes, culture, and experiences — whilst still allowing the flexibility to customise the journey around your own pace, interests, and travel style.

Day 1

Fes to the Erg Chebbi Desert via the Middle Atlas

Depart Fes and head south through the alpine town of Ifrane and into the cedar forests of Azrou in the Middle Atlas — where wild Barbary macaques are often spotted at the roadside. Continue through Midelt at 1,488m beneath the Jbel Ayachi peak. The landscape grows increasingly arid as you descend through the Ziz Valley before the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi appear on the horizon. A sunset camel trek leads to your luxury Berber camp. Traditional dinner, live music and a sky full of stars. Overnight at the camp.

Day 2

Sahara Sunrise and the Todra Gorge

Pre-dawn camel ride to the dune crest for the Sahara sunrise. After breakfast, head west to the Todra Gorge — 300-metre sheer walls and a clear river below. Walk through the gorge before continuing along the Route of 1,000 Kasbahs through the Dadès Valley. Dinner and overnight in the valley.

Day 3

Dades Valley to Ait Ben Haddou via Ouarzazate

Explore the Dadès Valley in the morning before heading west through the fragrant Rose Valley to Ouarzazate. Visit the Atlas Film Studios before arriving at the UNESCO Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou — a guided walk through its ancient clay alleys, towers and hilltop granary. Dinner and overnight in the village.

Day 4

Telouet Kasbah and the High Atlas to Marrakech

Depart Ait Ben Haddou and head into the High Atlas via the Telouet Kasbah — the former stronghold of the Glaoui family and one of Morocco's most atmospheric and rarely visited sites. Continue through the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260m) and descend to Marrakech. Drop off at your accommodation.
