4 Day Merzouga Desert Tour from Marrakech

5 • 27 traveller reviews

Route

Marrakech → Ouarzazate → Dades → Merzouga

Duration

4 Days

Four days through the finest landscapes of Morocco's south — from the High Atlas and the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou to the Todra Gorge, the Erg Chebbi dunes and the sweeping Draa Valley. Arrive at the Sahara on camelback at sunset, spend a night under the desert stars, and return to Marrakech the way the journey deserves to end.

We believe the best journeys feel personal — with the flexibility to tailor everything from activities and accommodation to pacing and the route itself.

Highlights

Cross the High Atlas to the UNESCO Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou — the iconic clay fortress immortalised by Gladiator and Game of Thrones.

Wind through the Skoura palm oasis to visit Kasbah Ameridil, then continue through the fragrant Rose Valley and the Dadès Valley.

Walk the Todra Gorge — 300-metre canyon walls, a clear river running through, one of North Africa's most striking natural corridors.

Visit local nomad families to explore Berber real Morocco and experience Berber pizza.

Ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes on camelback at sunset and spend the night in a fully equipped Berber camp under the stars.

Watch the Sahara sunrise from the top of the dunes at dawn — one of the most memorable mornings in Morocco.

Return via N'kob — the village of 45 kasbahs — and the long, beautiful Draa Valley all the way back to Marrakech.

The Experience

More than just the destinations

Every itinerary is carefully curated to balance Morocco's most unforgettable landscapes, culture, and experiences — whilst still allowing the flexibility to customise the journey around your own pace, interests, and travel style.

Day 1

Marrakech to the Dades Valley via the Atlas Mountains

Depart Marrakech and journey across the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, stopping along the way for panoramic views and photographs. Continue through Ouarzazate, often referred to as the "Hollywood of Africa", with the option to visit the famous film studios. After lunch, travel through the Skoura Palm Groves and the fragrant Rose Valley before arriving in the dramatic Dades Gorge. Dinner and overnight stay in the valley.

Day 2

Dades Gorge, Todra Gorge and the Sahara Desert

After breakfast, continue towards the magnificent Todra Gorge, where towering canyon walls rise high above a lush river valley. Enjoy time to explore the gorge on foot before stopping for lunch in the traditional Berber village of El Khorbat. In the afternoon, arrive at Merzouga and the edge of the Sahara Desert. Ride your camel across the golden dunes as the sun begins to set, before arriving at your luxury desert camp. Enjoy a traditional dinner, Berber hospitality, and an unforgettable night beneath the desert stars.

Day 3

Sahara Discovery and Nomadic Experiences

Spend the day exploring the Sahara beyond the dunes. Travel by 4x4 through the desert landscapes, visit a local nomadic family, and gain insight into traditional desert life. Enjoy an authentic Berber pizza experience before continuing through the region's historic villages and kasbahs. In the evening, settle into your accommodation in the famous village of the 45 Kasbahs for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4

Draa Valley, Ait Ben Haddou and Return to Marrakech

Begin the return journey through the palm-filled Draa Valley and the village of Nkob. Continue to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou, where your guide will lead you through one of Morocco's most iconic fortified villages. Travel through the scenic Ounila Valley before crossing the High Atlas Mountains once more and arriving back in Marrakech, where you will be dropped off at your hotel in the evening.
