7 Day South Morocco Desert Tour from Marrakech

5 • 3 traveller reviews

Route

Marrakech → Erg Chebbi → Zagora → Erg Chegaga → Taroudant

Duration

7 Days

A deep, seven-day exploration of Morocco's south — two Saharan desert camps, ancient kasbahs, the legendary Draa Valley and the walled city of Taroudant, all in one private circuit from Marrakech. For travellers who want to go beyond the surface and experience Morocco at full depth.

We believe the best journeys feel personal — with the flexibility to tailor everything from activities and accommodation to pacing and the route itself.

Highlights

Two entirely different desert experiences in one journey — the towering golden dunes of Erg Chebbi and the wild, remote Erg Chegaga.

The UNESCO Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, the Todra Gorge and the Skoura Oasis — three of Morocco's most iconic southern landscapes in the first two days alone.

Reach the Erg Chegaga dunes by off-road 4x4 — one of the most remote desert camps in the Moroccan Sahara.

Visit the Tamegroute Koranic library and its distinctive green-glazed ceramic workshop — a living piece of medieval Moroccan heritage.

Cross the mythic Lac Iriki dry lake bed — the legendary Paris-Dakar Rally route — on the way back north.

Discover Taroudant's ancient souks and 16th-century city walls — the 'Little Marrakech' that most international travellers never reach.

Return to Marrakech over the spectacular Tizi N'Test pass through the western High Atlas.

The Experience

More than just the destinations

Every itinerary is carefully curated to balance Morocco's most unforgettable landscapes, culture, and experiences — whilst still allowing the flexibility to customise the journey around your own pace, interests, and travel style.

Head east along the Route of 1,000 Kasbahs. Visit Kasbah Ameridil in the Skoura Oasis, wind through the Rose Valley and end the day at the Todra Gorge. Dinner and overnight in the gorge.

Day 3

Todra Gorge to the Erg Chebbi Desert

Walk the Todra Gorge in the morning, then drive east across the fossil plateau towards Erg Chebbi. Check in at the hotel before a one-hour sunset camel ride into the dunes. Berber camp dinner, live drums and a remarkable desert night sky.

Sahara Sunrise and the Draa Valley to Zagora

Sunrise from the dune crest, then breakfast and departure west via N'kob and its 45 kasbahs. Continue through the Draa Valley to Zagora. Dinner and overnight in Zagora.

Day 5

Tamegroute and the Remote Erg Chegaga

Head south to Tamegroute to visit the ancient Koranic library and the green-glazed pottery workshop. Lunch in M'Hamid, then venture off-road by 4x4 to the remote Erg Chegaga dunes. Arrive before sunset for a camel excursion and an evening at the desert camp with dinner and live music.
